Yanaka Ginza: Exploring Tokyo Oldest District!
Yanaka Ginza: Exploring Tokyo Oldest District!
Yanaka is an area of Tokyo stretched between Sendai and Ueno. It is one of Tokyo oldest areas and you can still feel the atmosphere of another era. I strongly recommend anyone in Tokyo to visit Yanaka Ginza and the area around it! The Main activities here are temple and shrine spotting, antique shopping, and a lot of street food!
While walking here I was surprised by the huge amount of street food vendors. I had a chance to try many awesome korokke (Japanese croquettes) of many different tastes, tempura, and unique sweets sold only here!
After enjoying my lunch, I had a look at the temples scattered around the area. Yanaka in fact is famous to be one of the areas in Tokyo with the highest density of Buddhist temples.
I also enjoyed shopping in the many antique shops here. One of them is dedicated to samurai armor and katana! See the video below if you are interested in seeing where it is!
Yanaka area is best accessed from JR station Nippori on the Yamanote line. From here it is just a 5 minutes walk to reach Yanaka Ginza, the main street of the Yanaka area.
