Getting Around Kobe
Traveling to Kobe from Tokyo is convenient thanks to Japan’s efficient Shinkansen (bullet train) network. The Tokaido Shinkansen Line connects Tokyo Station with Shin-Kobe Station in approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes. This is located just a short distance from the city center, making it easy to access various attractions.
Alternatively, travelers can opt for domestic flights from Tokyo’s Haneda Airport to Kobe Airport or Osaka Airport and take a bus from there.
In addition, Kobe is also easily accessible from Osaka, located just a short distance away. Travelers can take the JR Special Rapid train from Osaka Station to Sannomiya Station, with the journey taking around 20-30 minutes depending on the train type.
For this trip, I used the JR Kansai Wide Area Excursion pass. This pass is available to all non-Japanese individuals (including residents) and costs only 12000 Yen. The JR Kansai Wide Area Excursion Pass allows unlimited travel in most of the Kansai region (including Kyoto, Osaka, Kobe, Wakayama, Tottori, and Okayama) for 3 consecutive days. In summary, the pass is super convenient to travel in the Kansai area!
Accomodation
Accommodation options in Kobe vary from luxurious waterfront hotels to quaint guesthouses. Further, Many Ryokans in Arima Onsen offer rejuvenating hot springs. We recommend staying near Sannomiya station for the easiest access to all of the city attractions. In our latest stay, we spent a night at Kobe San Road Hotel, just a few minutes walk from Sannomiya station. This hotel has a British-inspired interior and offers cheap but cozy accommodations. Check my video on YouTube for a visual review of this hotel!
